CBD Wax: What Is It And How Is It Used?

    Advice
    |
    5 min

CBD has seen a surge in popularity over the last couple of years, with the US market alone growing by 706% in 2019.

But even as CBD products continue to grow in popularity, there are still some products that consumers are less familiar with.

One such product is CBD wax.

So what is it? How do you use it? And is it legal?

    What Is CBD?

First of all, let’s talk about what CBD is.

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is one of over a hundred cannabinoid compounds found in the Cannabis Sativa plant - or the Hemp plant as it’s also known.

These cannabinoids work with our body to regulate some of our body’s key functions via a process known as homeostasis.

Cannabinoid molecules interact with our endocannabinoid system (ECS) which is a network of receptors that are found throughout the body’s central and peripheral nervous systems.

As CBD doesn’t form a natural part of our diet, it can be taken as a food supplement to help support the body in the same way that we may take a multivitamin or iron supplement to help our body function optimally.

    What Is CBD Wax?

CBD Wax is a form of concentrated CBD that is so-called because of its wax-like appearance.

Because of the way CBD wax is produced it has an incredibly high potency, allowing users to receive a relatively high dose for the amount of wax used.

    How Is CBD Wax Made?

CBD Wax is made by extracting the CBD from the hemp plant, and then heating the resulting extract until it forms a wax-like substance.

The way in which the extract is heated will affect the properties of the wax and produces a different type of CBD wax.

Some of the most popularly available CBD waxes are:

    CBD Budder

So-called because it forms a consistency very close to butter, CBD Budder is made by heating the CBD to a high temperature and using air pressure to create a smooth and almost fluffy texture.

    CBD Shatter

Considered to be one of the cleanest CBD waxes as it’s repeatedly refined in order to produce the final texture, CBD Shatter is a much harder, brittle wax that can be broken or shattered very easily - hence the name.

    CBD Crumble

CBD Crumble is made in a similar way to CBD Budder, but because of some subtle differences, the final result is a wax that is much more crumbly. This wax is usually not recommended for people looking to “dab” due to its texture.

    CBD Live Resin

CBD Live Resin is created from “live” plants that have been frozen, rather than dried or cured. Because of this, it retains much more of the natural flavour than the other waxes and is considered the best of the bunch.

How Do You Use CBD Wax?

The most popular method for using CBD wax is called “Dabbing.”

This is where a “dab” of the wax is placed onto a heat source - usually a vape pen or a glass pipe - and heated to produce vapours that are then inhaled.

Dabbing doesn’t burn the wax in the way that smoking would, but instead heats it enough to vaporise the CBD which can then be inhaled.

    Is CBD Wax Legal?

CBD Wax is legal in the UK.

However, it’s worth bearing in mind that Cannabis is still a controlled substance, so even though CBD products may be legal, if they look or smell similar to an illegal Cannabis product then you could still end up having products confiscated, or worse, if you’re stopped by the police.

In our opinion, with so many other more effective ways to take CBD, it’s not worth the risk.

    The Bottom Line

Regardless of your thoughts on CBD wax; dabbing, vaping or otherwise smoking CBD is not the most effective way of taking CBD.

If you’re looking for maximum effectiveness then there are other ways to ingest CBD that have a much higher bioavailability.

As a company, our aim is to promote healthy living, and while we have no objections to how people wish to live their lives, we can’t in good faith recommend any forms of smoking as a healthy way to consume CBD.

Water-soluble CBD products like our Absorb range allow users to ingest CBD in a healthy way, and with a much higher bioavailability, which ultimately means your body is able to use the compounds more effectively.
