CBD Bath Bombs: Are They An Expensive Mistake?

    Advice
    |
    5 min

The CBD market has exploded in the last three or four years throughout the world. In the UK it shows no signs of slowing down.

For those who are not familiar with it CBD is short for cannabidiol, one of many cannabinoid compounds found in the cannabis/hemp plant.

Our body makes our own endogenous (from within) cannabinoids that help balance our health systems. There are even cannabinoids in the breast milk for newborn children which actually helps them thrive.

We can call CBD an exogenous (from without) cannabinoid. It interacts with our body in much the same way as the endogenous cannabinoids. Therefore we can confidently say our body is primed to safely use CBD for its benefit.

Of course, the name cannabis comes with a stigma attached.

Images of hippies, addicts, washed out tourists having a bad experience in Amsterdam and the list of negative images goes on often driven by vested interests who wish to keep cannabis illegal for their own gain, whether that is organised crime groups or organised pharmaceutical corporations.

Fortunately CBD is a huge step away from this and a very positive move to restore the reputation of this often misunderstood plant.

Firstly, CBD is non psychoactive. In other words, it cannot get you high. This means you can drive whilst using it, operate heavy machinery and function effectively without any concern you are going to be ‘under the influence’.

CBD and other legal compounds in the cannabis plant can have a wide range of interesting effects on your body and as a health food it is second to none.

Sadly this has led to a myriad of people wanting to get in on the act and make money from this compound that appears to be too good to be true.

I have to confess to being somewhat baffled by the endless attempts to put CBD into any product going. Some of this is so out of kilter with the fact CBD is supposed to be part of a healthy lifestyle that I can only think the people selling it have no idea about health or wellbeing.

At CBD One we believe in encouraging good health behaviour with expert advice. We do not think adding CBD to gimmicky products like beer, wine or even vapes is the way to get the most out of the cannabis plant.

However, there are hundreds, if not thousands of people engaging in lovely marketing activities for ‘pure CBD’, CBD flowers, sweets, gummies, beer, wine, balms, lotions, serums, pastes, capsules and the list grows longer by the day all the way through to bath bombs.

    What Are CBD Bath Bombs?

Bath bombs are rather lovely spheres, usually very colourful looking with various essential oils added. When added to a bath they fizz away until they dissolve, adding colour and scent to your bath.

They are no more or less pleasant than having a bubble bath and can be perfectly lovely to enjoy. However, aside from having nice smells there are now a whole host of them that have CBD oil added to them.

These normally come with a variety of labels to influence your thinking as to what they will do to your benefit. I’ve seen skin boosters, soul rejuvenators, muscle soaks, uplifting ones and even ones to help you sleep.

Now it may well be that bath bombs do all of the above because you are relaxing in a nice warm bath with essential oils involved but I can assure you, it is not the CBD that is doing the job.

All the CBD does is make your bath bomb more expensive.

I may be being unfair because CBD can be nice for your skin so it may be that soaking in a CBD bath may have a small use but it is still a very expensive way of using CBD for your skin.

I’ve seen 35 bath bombs being sold for £200 which, if used every day, is just over a month’s supply. Our strongest CBD oil is almost half that cost, far more potent because it is full spectrum (did I mention bath bombs use CBD isolate, CBD in its cheapest and least effective form,) and will last you anywhere between a month and three or four months.

So that’s £200 of very expensive bath water heading down the drain.

Can CBD Be Absorbed Through The Skin?

Human skin is pretty much impermeable to CBD oil applied on the skin unless using clever technology such as transdermal patches.

Heavy applications on the skin may pass through the pores but will almost certainly not reach the bloodstream, certainly not in enough quantity to have any meaningful effects.

However, this will not be the case for a bath bomb because the CBD is so diluted as to become almost meaningless.

Essentially, all a CBD bath bomb does is create very expensive bath water.

Are There Any Benefits To CBD Bath Bombs?

There are certainly benefits to baths. Enhanced by CBD? I doubt that very much but the fact you are relaxing in a pleasant bath with some nice oils in it will at worst do no harm.

If you have any health issues or recurring problems I would suggest you do not have a bath more than twice a week as they can be quite draining on your constitution.

I have heard of one report of someone who swore by CBD bath bombs but I have no idea what else was in the bath bombs so it is difficult to be certain this improvement was caused by the CBD.

This is the only glimmer of hope for bath bombs but it is very thin evidence indeed.

I would go so far as to say that next to staring at a bottle of CBD and hoping it helps using it in a bath is pretty much futile for most problems most of the time and will cost you a lot of money.

Can I Put CBD Oil In My Bath?

Of course you can but my question would be, “Why do you want to do this?”

Adding CBD oil to your bath is not on my list for effective use of CBD both for the results you may want but also for the cost involved.

If you have a skin problem use an oat bath, chamomile, or for muscle aches and pains try Epsom salts or magnesium flakes but please do not waste your money on CBD to be diluted by a whole bath full of water.

Skin problems are very often linked to high stress, so a long soak in the bath might help you to relax.

The most effective way to use CBD is to get it into your bloodstream, and taking it orally has a much higher bioavailability than using a CBD bath bomb.

This can be done via the sublingual route, which is where you put two or three drops of CBD oil under your tongue, holding there for a couple of minutes and swallowing.

If you use a brand that requires you to use a full dropper at a time it is almost certainly a CBD isolate (or highly diluted)  and will not contain all the other useful compounds that a more potent full spectrum product will give you.

Or you can use our Absorb range and take one shot a day in any hot or cold drink which is by far the most bioavailable way to take CBD. This range offers 100% absorption and is fast acting as well as energising.

Third on the list is our Release CBD patches which WILL get the CBD through your skin or our Hatcha hemp powder which can be eaten or added to any food or drink you fancy.

At the bottom of the list for using CBD is our topical Complete CBD cream which is beautiful, contains full spectrum CBD and is very high quality. I would suggest using this on your skin.
